10 Family Fun Activities To Do this Weekend To Beat The Coronavirus Blues

Whoo-hoo! The weekend has arrived! And for many of us, these few sacred days that are normally set aside for date nights, family outings, or weekend getaways have been snatched away from us like a thief in the night. With the Coronavirus crisis upon us, a government mandate to stay indoors, and social distancing in place, more than likely you are finding yourself stuck inside with the kids and feeling like you are on the verge of coming down with a cabin fever.

But fear not, we have a few tricks up our sleeves to help you and your family stay entertained this weekend. Check out these 10 fun activities to do with your family this weekend to beat the Coronavirus blues.

1. Break out the Board Games

Scrabble, Monopoly, Candy Land, Chutes, and Ladders oh my! The family that plays games together stays together — or at least they have a lot more fun!

2. Make Homemade Greeting Cards

Handmade cards are a unique way for your family to connect and showcase their creativity. You can send the cards to distant relatives or to senior citizens at the nursing homes to brighten up their day.

3. Watch Family Movies

Break out the old VCR, camcorder, and family video and plan a movie night to watch years’ worth of family celebrations, vacations, birthdays, and more. Everyone in the family will enjoy a walk down memory lane and laugh at outdated clothes, hairstyles, and more!

4. Host a Treasure Hunt

Want to keep the kiddos busy while you sneak in some mommy time? Treasure hunts are pretty easy and depending on how many items there are, could last a while. As one of the fun activities you can do in your backyard, you can teach your child problem-solving skills and analytical skills, and develop their motor skills easily. Hide anywhere from 10 to 20 items around the house or outside to keep kids occupied for a few hours.

6. Have an Indoor Picnic

Grab a sheet, whatever food you have, and enjoy a living room picnic (without the ants). You can even play a game with it such as “I Spy” to help your kids with colors, recognition, and counting.

7. Film TikToks

Bored? It’s the perfect time to choreograph a family dance, try out the newest TikTok Challenge (the safe one), and share it online for your family and friends to see.

8. Make a Vision Board

Grab your old magazines or print off pictures from Pinterest or Google and paste them to a poster board or computer paper. Fill it with images of what you want this year to be like after this crisis end, then hang it on the fridge or somewhere where everyone in the family will see it often.

9. Launch ABCmouse Learning Academy

ABCMouse Learning Academy is a great educational resource with tons of lessons that kids can benefit from. And for a limited time, it is FREE.

10. Go for a Walk

Nothing beats a little fresh air and exercise. And let me let you in on a little secret… it is totally FREE.
